I’m from Taipei, Taiwan. I've always been sure I wanted to study in the UK.

I’m an MA Arts Management student, and as an artist, I don’t want to just focus on the known and the well-trodden path; we need to explore more possibilities and gain experience. If I go to London, it’s not necessarily easy to access ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ information, but if I go to ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ, London information is easy to access.

Before making my final decision, I talked with many universities. I am keen on ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ: the fantastic school buildings at Queen's, professional professors and friendly people.

My student life at Queen’s

From Taiwan to ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ, you definitely need a layover. The fastest route still takes around 22 hours of flying, making it a journey where you can truly reorganise yourself. I had a , so I arrived in June 2025. It is so easy to buy anything you need here, so don’t worry too much. Even if you have a question, just ask anyone; if they don’t know the answer, they will help you find someone who does.

I went to the , the , the , and to explore various art forms and new shows. Also, going to the pub and hanging out with friends is my favourite part of my postgraduate life.

Travelling to Dublin is also very convenient; the only takes 2 hours and 30 minutes. I went to see in Ireland, and I highly recommend everyone see that dynamic and cultural performance.

Tips for students from Taiwan who are thinking of coming to Queen's

Don't worry about asking; just ask! I know that in our culture, we have the concept of a 'stupid question,' but trust me, there is no such thing as a stupid question when you are a student. This is the best chance to ask anything you don't know. At the same time, you're not just helping yourself - sometimes you are helping other people as well. Everyone here is very friendly.

Don't overthink; just enjoy it. You will find that focusing on the present moment is the best way to prepare for your future. Keep learning, keep working, and you will achieve your goal. Balance your study and social life to explore the different aspects of your life. I know it's not an easy thing, but if you truly encounter any mental health issues, the school also offers excellent help that you can seek out.

Building your value by yourself is a critical thing for an international student. In Asia, there is always someone telling you what is good and right, but that is not entirely the case. You already made the choice to come to this amazing city. Open your mind to discussion; even conversations that resemble a debate are actually good.

The process is not always smooth, the ripping, the collapse, the raw tenderness.

Studying abroad alone is an exciting endeavour, but it is also a challenge, especially for someone so sensitive. But everything will be better, especially because at Queen's there are the best teams, mature student support, and ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ is a wonderful city.

Donna

MA Arts Management | Postgraduate Student | Taiwan

Hey, I'm Donna. I'm a dancer and dance teacher from Taiwan. I grew up in an artist's family, which made me love all types of art.

I love aimlessly walking around a new city or village, visiting local markets, museums, theaters, and bookstores. Reading and writing are also essential and indispensable parts of my life.

I enjoy communicating and interacting with people, but actually, I prefer being by myself more often.
