Martin and Christine Dowling have been playing traditional Irish music together since the early 1980s when they met at the local sessions in Madison, Wisconsin. Over the decades they have developed a seamless and intimate style of fiddle and flute playing deeply influenced by the music of Sligo, Leitrim, Fermanagh and Donegal. Christine is also a sensitive interpreter of traditional song in the English language, whether of Irish, Scottish, or American origin. Based in ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ since 1994, they have secured a reputation across Ireland, appearing at clubs, festivals, sessions, and on Irish radio and television. They also appear regularly at festivals in Europe. Among their many projects over the years Martin and Christine released the acclaimed album A Thousand Farewells in 1997, recorded with their long-time friend and collaborator, guitarist Daithi Sproule. Martin has held lectureships and research positions focussing on Irish music and history in Queen’s University of ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ and University College Dublin. He is the author of Traditional Music and Irish Society: Historical Perspectives (2014). Martin and Christine have for many years served on the management committee and as music tutors for ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵtrad Traditional Music and Dance Society based in the Crescent Arts Centre in ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ.
