SARC Member, Dr Edwar Calderón, collaborates with Colombian musicians during the NI Science Festival
SARC Member, Dr Edwar Calderón, collaborates with Colombian musicians during the NI Science Festival delivering a message that provides a different meaning to waste. Through producing music using recycling materials, The Mr Klaje Collective from Cali, Colombia, have been collaborating with Dr Calderón on projects that trigger socio-spatial transformations in areas of conflict.
On 24th February 2025, as reported on BBC News NI, The Mr Klaje Collective together with Dr Calderón, worked with children at St Mary's Primary School, Draperstown. They have worked with more than 500 children in schools in the last 4 years. In Colombia, they use the power of music to mitigate gangs’ recruitment, and even bring former gang members together, promoting peace and reconciliation through teaching creativity. The message during the Science Festival was not only about the universal language of music for peacebuilding but also the environmental awareness that could make peace with nature.
